How it started
Kelvis had watched families in Nairobi turn down better housing because they couldn't pull together 3 months of deposit in time. Dalmas had seen friends lose homes because of a single missed payment that spiralled. Alan had spent nearly a decade in property management watching good tenants fail to get through the door.
They built RentU to change the fundamental economics of renting in Kenya — not with charity, but with smart financial infrastructure that works for everyone in the transaction.
Three years in, the platform has served 1,282+ tenants, worked with 26+ property managers, and launched Kenya's first rent-based alternative credit score. We're just getting started.
Four principles that guide everything.
Housing is a right
Every Kenyan deserves access to decent housing — regardless of their savings balance.
Trust above all
Landlords trust us with their assets. Tenants trust us with their savings. We take that seriously.
Built for Africa
M-Pesa first. Kenya-first. Africa-first. We build for the context our users actually live in.
Data creates opportunity
A rent payment history is valuable. We turn that data into real-world opportunities for users.
The people behind RentU
Deep roots in finance, tech, and Kenya's real estate market.
